Preliminary study of early primary HIV infection in a high risk cohort (A collaboration between SEARCH, The Thai Red Cross AIDS Research Centre, AFRIMS and University of Hawaii)

Dr. Jintanat Ananworanich: Principal Investigator, Dr. Nittaya Phanuphak: Co-Principal Investigator. This study evaluates the incidence of early, primary HIV infection in a high risk cohort at the Anonymous Clinic at the Thai Red Cross AIDS Research Centre by screening HIV EIA negative samples with RT PCR. The study is ongoing and plans to screen approximately 5,000 samples within 12 months (completion in mid 2007). The next phase is establishing a cohort of early, primary HIV infection.
